Vice-Gov Dong Padilla mourns moms demise

Camarines Norte Vice Governor Dong Padilla (right) was in Manila when her mother, Carmelita, popularly known as “Mama Lita” to Mambolenos, passed away at 86 at her home in Mambulao.

Padilla, the three-term mayor of Mambulao until July 2019, was away on personal business errands, when he got the news of his mother’s passing.

Padilla said “it was the worst thing to be away” at the time of his mother’s death.

Reacting to messages of condolences that his family has received from friends, associates and the people in Mambulao, he said in a video played on YouTube during a live tribute “to Mama Lita” aired on Facebook and YouTube at his mother’s wake:

“Hanggat buhay pa ang ating mga magulang, ang ating mga tatay, mga nanay, bigyan natin sila ng oras – tawagan, i-chat, bisitahin at ‘wag kalilimutang sabihin na mahal natin sila.

“Sapagkat hindi po natin alam kung hanggang kalian tatagal ang kanilang buhay.”

(While our parents are still around – our mother, our father – give them your time … call them, chat them, visit them and don’t forget to tell them “I love you…

(Because we never knew when they would leave this physical world.)

Padilla thanked the people who mourned with his family.

“Ang pakikiramay po ninyo ay nagpagaan sa bigat na aming nararamdaman sa pagkawala ni Mama.

“Bilang anak ni Mama, masakit pero like what they usually say, life must go on… dapat nating tanggapin dahil ito po ang katotohanan ng buhay…”

(In condoling with us, you helped ease the weight of our loss in the passing of our Mama. As her child, it was painful for me but just like what is usually said, life must go on… we should learn to accept it, because these are the realities in life.”

Padilla said he was expressing himself “as your friend and your brother Dong, to remind you how important it is for us to find always a way to express our love to our parents…”
