Thirteen students of Jose Panganiban National High School (JPNHS) have received a monthly stipend of Php500 from the Student Welfare Assistant Program (SWAP).

SWAP, a pet project of the JPNHS Alumni Association Inc. for the school year 2020-2021, aimed to help the recipients in their school needs. They received the aids during their eight months of schooling.

The beneficiaries are Hannah Joy San Agustin of &-Diligent, Kristine Bernadette Capapas of 8-Helpful, Florecel Beguia and Korleen Mecca Tagum of 9-Admirable, Bea Bianca Niones of 9-Diligent, Jade Anthony Plotado and Eliazar Canaria of 10-Diligent, John Will Reduta of 10-Punctual, Lyon Grey Villacarlos of 11-GAS 2, Via Sabalboro of 11-GAS 1, John Denver Bandales of 12-STEM and Rommel Doma of 12-GAS 2.

Jay Gamil, a student of 11-CSS 2 is the personal scholar of Percival Ostonal of Batch 1966, and the marketing director of MWBuzz.

Five of the recipients were already in the program last year while the other eight were new grantees.

Since the monthly allowance was lowered to Php500 instead of Php1,000 per month, more students benefited from the SWAP.

Since there were no face-to-face classes this year because of the pandemic, the sponsors cut the amount to half.

The monthly stipend helped the students a lot with their school supplies’ needs.

Aside from Ostonal, June Pagadora-Welsh of Batch 1970, Eden Valenzuela-Espaldon of Batch 1975, Dr. Jerome O. Laceda of Batch 1989 and Edelyn M. Lonizo of Batch 2001 were the sponsors of the program this school year.

The students were chosen after the recommendations of their former adviser, submission of a student profile, and background check by Miss Eunice M. Lonizo, the alumni coordinator.

The SWAP is a brainchild project of the former principal, Editha G. Chavez of Batch 1959, and Engr. Mateo E. España of Batch 1970.

It has been running for more than a decade, benefiting the poor and marginalized students of the school.

Because of SWAP, the students stayed put in school.

The project also supported the Drop-out Reduction Program (DORP) of the school.
