Cleanliness drive gets a boost from the private sector

ONE hundred trash segregation cans have been donated by the private sector to boost the cleanliness drive of the local government of Mambulao.

The newly painted trash cans were recently turned over to the LGU by the Kabalikat Charity and the Tau Gama Fraternity, said Police Lieutenant Rosa B. Ilao, (right) deputy police chief in Mambulao.

She announced the turnover in a live YouTube program of the Public Information Office (PIO).

The trash cans will segregate wet and dry trash and those that are recyclable.

Lt. Ilao has appealed to the public to observe proper waste disposal to keep cleanliness at home and in the neighborhood.

She said that an existing municipal ordinance penalizes violators of Republic Act 9003 known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

The law mandates the local government units (LGUs) to achieve 25% waste reduction through establishing an integrated solid waste management plans based on 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycling).

Trash collected from the Mambulao town is brought to a recycling facility near Barangay Larap.

“First-time violators would be warned and subsequent violation would draw penalty as provided for by the municipal ordinance,” Lt. Ilao said.

The Mambulao LGU launched the cleanliness program called Task Force Kalinisan early this year to rid the community of unwanted household wastes.

The LGU is carrying out the cleanliness program in coordination with the local Police.

The Mambulao PNP has also donated two sets of segregating trash bins to the Barangay South Poblacion. The local police have received the donation from the private sector. In the photo, Chairperson Ma Ledai Aler inspects the trash drums that will contain outdoor trash.
