ISOLATION TENTS... The Mambulao government had set up a Covid-19 quarantine facility on Calalanay Island off Mambulao Bay shortly after the virus became more pervasive in many parts of the country last year. The island facility had been dismantled and replaced with one at the Jomapa Convention Center in town, the only accredited quarantine area for Mambulao residents infected with the virus.

dilg lauds Mambulao’s Covid response

The Mambulao municipal government has received praise from the Department of Local Government (DILG) for its “best practices against Covid-19”.

The local government got praises for setting up a unique quarantine facility on Calalanay Island off the coast of Mambulao for locals tagged as Persons Under Monitoring (PUM).

Several facilities composed of tents and provisions for PUMs were set up on the quarantine island. It was the only one of its kind in the country.

The national TV news networks such as the UNTV News and Rescue reported on this unique island quarantine facility.

Likewise, strict Covid-19 health protocols had been enforced, including police road checkpoints on the borders leading to the town proper for persons with the virus.

With the LGU’s strict lockdown rules, Mambolenos were forced to stay at home, making it hard for them to earn a living.

To ease this burden, Mayor Ariel Non backed by the Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council) sent out food “ayuda” for some 18,000 families while the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) was in effect.

The DILG also lauded the LGU for its online “lockdown challenge” to the Mambolenos, to give families the chance to spend time at home with members doing worthwhile activities.

The LGU has imposed a strict “stay-at-home” policy as one measure to protect people from the contagious virus.
